Abstract
The impact of digitalization on employee productivity has been a topic of interest for
researchers and organizations alike. With the advent of digital technologies, organizations
have been increasingly relying on digital tools and platforms to improve the efficiency and
effectiveness of their operations. The present study aims to explore the impact of
digitalization on employee productivity using the case of Uber, a leading ride-hailing
company. The study is based on a comprehensive review of scholarly articles published
between 2017 and 2021, The findings suggest that digitalization has a positive impact on
employee productivity, as it enhances the quality of work, reduces the time and effort
required to complete tasks, and supports communication and collaboration among employees.
However, the impact of digitalization is not uniform across all employees and can vary
depending on factors such as job role, level of skill, and technological savvy. The study
concludes that while digitalization can bring significant benefits to employees and
organizations, it is essential to ensure that employees are equipped with the necessary skills
and resources to maximize its impact on their productivity.

1. Introduction
Digitalization can be defined as the process of converting analog information into
digital form and storing it in a computer or other digital device. Digitalization has
revolutionized many aspects of modern life and has had a profound impact on business,
education, communication, and society in general.
According to a 2020 article by the World Economic Forum, “digitalization refers to
the increasing use of technology, such as computers and the internet, to create, store, process
and transmit information.” (Børset, 2020). Similarly, a 2021 article by Harvard Business
Review explains that “digitalization is the integration of digital technologies into all areas of
a business, fundamentally changing how it operates and delivers value to customers”
(McAfee & Brynjolfsson, 2021).
The digital revolution has dramatically transformed the way organizations operate,
with digital technologies and platforms playing an increasingly central role in business
processes and operations. The impact of digitalization on employee productivity is an area of
growing concern for organizations, as they seek to improve the efficiency and effectiveness
of their operations in the face of rapidly changing technological and market conditions. The
purpose of this study is to explore the impact of digitalization on employee productivity, with
a focus on the case of Uber, a leading ride-hailing company.
Digitalization refers to the integration of digital technologies and platforms into
business processes and operations, with the aim of improving efficiency, effectiveness, and
competitiveness (Chauhan & Singh, 2018). The use of digital technologies and platforms can
support employees in their work by providing access to real-time information and data,
enabling communication and collaboration, and streamlining business processes (Anderson &
Rowley, 2019). The impact of digitalization on employee productivity is likely to vary across

different employees and organizations, depending on factors such as job role, level of skill,
and technological savvy (Li & Xie, 2017).
Productivity can be defined as the measure of efficiency with which goods and
services are produced in an economy. It is calculated as the ratio of output to input and is
often used as an indicator of the effectiveness of an organization’s use of resources.
Regarding digitalization within a company, digital technologies and processes have
been shown to greatly impact productivity. For example, digital tools such as project
management software and communication platforms can streamline operations and increase
collaboration among employees, leading to improved productivity. Additionally,
digitalization can also automate manual tasks, reducing the time and resources required to
complete them, and allowing employees to focus on higher value tasks.
According to a 2021 article by Harvard Business Review, “digitalization can increase
productivity by enabling organizations to perform tasks faster and more efficiently, reducing
errors and downtime, and freeing up employees to focus on higher-value activities” (McAfee
& Brynjolfsson, 2021). This demonstrates the potential for digitalization to have a significant
impact on a company’s overall productivity.
The study of the impact of digitalization on employee productivity is relevant to both
researchers and organizations, as it sheds light on the ways in which digital technologies and
platforms can support employees in their work, and provides insights into the factors that
contribute to or detract from the positive impact of digitalization. A review of the existing
literature in this area shows that there is a growing body of research that has explored the
impact of digitalization on employee productivity, but much of this research has focused on
the manufacturing sector or on individual employees (Khatri & Thomas, 2021). The present
